MSNTP/400 - Time
Synchronizer
SNTP is a protocol used over TCP/IP to synchronize the
time of networked-computers together. The time
"standard" can be obtained from various providers, such as
the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) available over the Internet, or from one of the
networked-computers. Synchronizing the time clocks of networked computers can
be especially important so that database time-stamps are coordinated.
MSNTP/400 can be run in either time-client or
time-server modes.
 |
As a time-client,
MSNTP/400 corrects the AS/400's "Hardware Clock", known as the System
Value QTIME and the internal value of settimeofday().
Ops Navigator is not used for configuration nor management! The AS/400
can obtain the standard time from:
|
-
Other systems or workstations, on a network, that
are running SNTP server software
-
NIST at time.nist.gov
(192.43.244.18 NCAR, Boulder Colorado)
-
Other internet sites such as those listed at:
http://boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/service/time-servers.html
 | As a time-server, MSNTP/400 runs on an
AS/400 to provide the time services to: |
-
Other AS/400s, on a network, running MSNTP/400 in
the Client mode. In this mode, MSNTP/400 corrects the AS/400's "Hardware
Clock", system value QTIME and internal value of settimeofday().
-
PCs or workstations, running
compatible SNTP Client software, to correct their clocks.

MSNTP/400 may be obtained from the download area
